Transaction Animation
A few years ago, the bank and tech company Klarna underwent a rebranding to reinforce their "smooth shopping" promise. They turned to me to address some creative and technical challenges they were facing.
We've all seen the familiar spinning wheel during online transactions—a visual cue that something is in progress, though we can't see the details. While effective, this moment can feel dull and uninspired, detracting from the shopping experience. Klarna needed a more engaging solution, so I created sleek, animated loops to elevate the experience. Facing technical constraints due to the high volume of transactions, I optimized the animations using JSON code, reducing their size by 90% and ensuring smooth performance.
Iconography
Following the success of the animations, Klarna's producer approached me for another project: converting their existing icon sets from an outlined design to a colored one, in line with their new "Smooth shopping" tagline and updated brand guidelines. The project expanded to include reworking images that couldn't be easily converted and introducing new iconography. I assembled a team with the Dutch designer and animator Ralf Hakkenberg, my colleague at Cinematic Johan Sonestedt, and myself as designer and supervisor. The internal design team used these detailed icons as the basis for a smaller set of 20x20px spot icons. In total, we delivered a package containing 88 icons.
